Bitcoin's OP_RETURN field holds a few dozen bytes — a sentence, maybe two. It is not built for long-form writing. Between 8 and 10 July 2025, across blocks 904,530 to 904,881, somebody wrote roughly 673 kilobytes into it anyway.

The method was brute force. Each transaction carried a fragment prefixed with a sequence marker — 10JULY0001, 10JULY0002, and onward past eight thousand — so the pieces could be reassembled in order by anyone who noticed. Sentences break mid-word across transaction boundaries, because the text was simply sliced to fit and fed to the chain.

It opens with the Song of Moses from Deuteronomy 32, continues through scripture and commentary, and ends as something else entirely: a personal testimony, naming names, describing what the author believed had been done to her family. It closes with a signature — Jolene Harms, with a social handle, and her husband's.

At the fee rates of the time this cost on the order of 0.026 BTC. The author paid it to place a text beyond anyone's power to remove: not on a website that can lapse, not on a platform that can suspend an account, but in a ledger replicated across tens of thousands of machines. Whatever one makes of the content, the intent is legible. It is the same instinct as the genesis block's newspaper headline, carried to an extreme.
